I grew up right here in Rock Hill and graduated from Northwestern in 2012.
After graduating from College of Charleston, Bob Hayes (a legend of an athletic director) saw something in me and asked me to come teach and coach with him. So I did. I spent five years teaching math and coaching football and baseball, first at Wando, then at May River High School down in Beaufort County.
My wife, Jaci, and I decided to move back home to Rock Hill, and I made the jump into real estate. It was a grind at first. We went from working two or three jobs just to get by, to me building a career with The Home Team that I'm proud of.
Jaci is the cornerstone of who I am. We've been together 13 years, married for six, and we have the best son, Jackson. Being his dad and her husband is the most important job I've got. Jackson starts school in the next couple of years, and that's really what pushed me to do this. I want to help fix what needs fixing before he's the one sitting in the classroom, not after.
I stay busy around town too. I'm a member at Oakland Baptist, a team lead for ChristmasVille and Come See Me, and a volunteer with the Bethel Men's Shelter. This is home, and I try to show up for my community.
Here's the thing: I've actually been the teacher. I've actually been the coach. I know what it's like to be in that classroom and on that sideline, and I know how to run a business and manage a budget. I’m proud to have these experiences and truly believe the combined knowledge makes me a great fit for the role. Most importantly, as a parent, I have the same worries and hopes a lot of you do.
I don't believe a board member's job is to walk in with their own agenda. It's to listen to everybody, gather the facts, and vote for what's truly best for our kids, even when that's the hard call. That's how I plan to lead.

In my career I've worked with hundreds of local elected officials across the county. I've gotten really good at reading which ones are doing their job for the right reasons and which ones aren't. From Mayors to Council Members to School Board members some just do a better job than others at truly caring for their constituents. With that, there are very few times where you meet someone who is 100% doing something for the right reasons. Tyler Williams running for Rock Hill School Board is one of those times for me.
I'm proud to call Tyler a friend. I feel like I've gotten to know him well enough to glean this really isn't about politics for him. He cares about kids, families, and teachers in a way that is authentic and not just fun buzzwords for a campaign slogan. Both Jaci and Tyler care deeply for education and it is apparent the moment you meet them. Also, he’s a really good dude. Which, frankly, feels like a pretty underrated qualification for public office these days...
But this is also politics - and I believe that Tyler has a vision to make Rock Hill Schools better. What I like about Tyler is he has vision not just for right now but years down the road. He understands what teachers need to be supportive, he cares about making sure every kid in our district has opportunities to thrive, and he wants to make sure we are building schools that are excellent for kids that aren't even in the classrooms yet.
But, with all that said I think my favorite thing about Tyler is he gets something that is honestly easy to miss - or dismiss as common sense: You can't separate our schools from the rest of Rock Hill. The city can't succeed if the schools don't excel and the schools won't prosper if the city doesn't either. They are tied together.
I spend most of my day thinking about development and how communities interact with that development, so yeah I'm biased..but schools are a part of absolutely everything. Housing, Jobs, Economic Development, Parks, Community Engagement, Disaster Relief...where people choose to call home...all of it. We even got a healthy reminder of that recently... You can't talk about the future of Rock Hill without talking about our schools.
That's one of the things I appreciate about Tyler. He sees the bigger picture. He knows and believes that a great school system doesn't just make our schools better. It makes Rock Hill better.
Outside of politics there's just Tyler and his family.
Jaci and Tyler are steady, they are thoughtful. They care about people. I've seen firsthand that they are the people who quietly do the work that needs to be done without desiring the recognition and accolades.
Tyler is the type of person I trust to make the hard decisions without losing sight of why he is there in the first place.
